The world has been dark for a thousand years. To protect themselves from the terrors of a toxic, sunless wasteland, humankind built themselves a city. They called it Aurelia. The city’s technology has progressed with its rise into the sky–all the way from a man-made shelter to a steam-powered fortress.
But on the eve of their one thousand-year anniversary, Aurelia’s citizens uncover a fatal weakness in their energy supply that could shut down their boilers . . . forever. Mayhem ensues. Strange creatures, scientific rivalry, and political conspiracies further threaten the delicate balance that stands between humankind and total extinction.
It’s up to five unlikely Aurelians–a mechanically-minded prince, a reluctant debutante, a regretful soldier, an innocent waif, and a cunning serpent–to save them all.
Originally released in 2012 as a 48-episode illustrated novel, Rise of the Tiger featured the work of City Beast Studio principal Lisa Walker England and over a dozen volunteer artists.
In addition to the novel, a companion bestiary (also available from City Beast Studio) explores monsters, mutants and machines that inhabit the world of the story.
In 2013, Rise of the Tiger was turned into a collaborative web show on the groundbreaking Theatrics platform. The show, titled AURELIA: Edge of Darkness, invited anyone to become a citizen of Aurelia and help tell the next chapter of the city’s story. Over 40 volunteer actors from around the world participated during the show’s two-season run.
Rise of the Tiger and Aurelia: Edge of Darkness are currently being updated and expanded into AURELIA, the final novel. We’re excited about continuing the story’s transmedia tradition by bringing you a novel that includes text, images, video, audio and web-based components.
