If there is one piece of advice that would apply across the board to anyone interested or involved in the creative fields, it would be this: Get going! Do your thing. Make stuff. Start now.
The process of creating art takes time. From honing one’s craft, to assembling the right team, to editing and quality control, there is a long list to be tackled to bring story and art to life in any medium.
It’s hard to believe our team here at City Beast has been working together for a year and a half already. While we have gotten several projects done, including projects of opportunity not originally on our roster, we have plenty of work ahead just to keep up with our current list of proposed works. One of those opportunities happens to be the Realm Makers conference in Pennsylvania this weekend (May 30th & 31st). Our very own Lisa Walker England will be bringing her knowledge of all things steampunk with a course called “Steampunk 101.”
Lisa will also be bringing a special package for attendees of her panel that we have been carefully crafting here at City Beast Studio, a short story called “The Realm Maker”, created especially for the event.
We are honored that she has been invited to share her experiences working on projects like Victoria Sharp – Girl Inventor , The Aurelia Bestiary , and her own serial fantasy fiction “Rise of the Tiger” with other writers interested in science fiction and fantasy genres.
In other news, we are also pleased to announce the long awaited return of our lead artist, Cole Norton from his year in Japan. While the tools currently available for artists to work and communicate virtually are amazing, we will be happy to have him back home, and excited to hear his stories, and move forward with projects like Crawdaddy , A.R.C. 2067 and others.
It has been a wonderful year of creating and putting together our processes and stories at City Beast Studio. We have met new artists and friends, created concept design work for a science fiction film (TBA), written a new script for the Victoria Sharp series, and gotten the ball rolling on a number of other projects. We’ve even been building our very own mad scientist’s laboratory, from which we will be filming and sharing more about our processes, projects, and general fun stuff
All of these things, they take an enormous amount of time, consideration, and collaboration to get done. We juggle things, we struggle to find the right words, we make mistakes, we fix mistakes, we get up every day and find a way to keep moving forward. And we are happy to share some of that process with you. Despite the atmosphere of competition that has been fostered in the fields of art and entertainment, we are all in this together. We live in exciting times. Fans and artists now have the tools to interact and collaborate more easily and directly than ever before, but it all begins with that first step. So pick up that pen, that paintbrush, that camera, or whatever your instrument of choice may be and… Ready, set, make stuff!
